Administration Announces Eviction Moratorium

CDC order stops evictions until the end of 2020.

In an order released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) this week, the Trump Administration announced an eviction moratorium through the end of 2020 under the agency’s quarantine authority.

Renters who make no more than $99,000 a year, or $198,000 a couple, would qualify for the rent moratorium if they are likely to become homeless if evicted, the order says.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told an oversight panel at the House of Representatives that the action would be a “real moratorium” but urged Congress to provide rental assistance also. He added that the “significant actions” would affect “close to the 40 million renters.”  He said the new action would ensure people “don’t get thrown out of their rental homes” as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson said, “This unprecedented action is further proof that President Trump is doing everything in his power to keep the American people safe and secure in their homes.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • With thanksgiving for the protection given to renters who cannot be evicted through the end of the year.
  • For landlords, some of whom are also suffering under the pandemic, as they suffer the potential loss of the rental revenue.
  • That people would deal honorably with the moratorium, paying their bills if able to do so.
